NEWPORT IOW 1 – 1 EAST COWES VICS
East Cowes Vics won 4-3 on penalties
Newport and East Cowes Vics clashed in the 2nd semi final of the Westwood Cup at Cowes in what turned out to be a very tense encounter.
The first half saw possession shared but very few goalmouth incidents, the best opening of the half fell to Vics when a cross from the right found Freddie Knowles unmarked, but he could only direct his header wide of Cameron Farley’s right hand post.
On a lush Westwood Park pitch Vics upped their game in the second half and were rewarded in the 62nd minute when JAKE YOUNIE volleyed home from close range to stun Newport. The Wessex Premier side however responded well and leveled the scores in the 71st minute through TOM McINNES and with neither side able to find a winning goal the game had to be decided with a penalty shoot-out. Alex Prezpolewski, Corbin Ricketts and skipper Harry Ovnik scored with their spot kicks whilst John McKie blasted his kick out of the ground before Ryan Oatley sent his wide. Although Adam Sunsberg sent his kick wide of the goal Vics triumphed as Wayne Newnham, Andy Ebbs, Aiden Sainsbury and Josh Younie found the target to send them into the Final against hosts Cowes Sports whilst Newport will face Brading in the 3rd/4th play-off.
