COWES SPORTS              12 aet      EAST COWES VICS

For the fourth time during the 12/13 season East Cowes Vics managed to get the better of the Yachtsmen as they secured their place in the Gold Cup Final with a extra time winner, however a stronger Referee may well have issued a couple of red cards given the thuggish act of one Vics player stamping on Max Draper during extra time along with a couple of other incidents that may have also seen a red card issued.

It was Vics that made the better start when Joe Adams broke through the Cowes defence only to see his chip sail over the Cowes crossbar. Dom Burbidge was gifted Cowes’ first chance when a poor clearance from Vics Jamie Bray found Dom some 35 yards from goal, with the keeper out of his goal he tried his luck with a snapshot but unfortunately his effort went wide of target. Josh Appell then found himself one on one with Ed Hatt who done well to push Josh’s shot wide of his goal for a corner. Craig Insley and Max Draper then combined well before setting up Jordan Browne but his goal bound effort was saved easily by Jamie Bray. Vics took the lead on the half hour when a through ball saw JOE ADAMS use his strength to hold of Ash Brett’s challenge before firing past Ed Hatt. No further action of note in the first half so Vics held the advantage at the break.

Sam Yelland broke down the Cowes left early in the second half , his cross saw Ed Hatt fumble, but his defence made sure the ball was cleared to safety. Cowes drew level in the 59th minute when a cross that evaded all appeared to be going safe but a Vics defender upended Aidan Bryan and Referee, Ron Groves, pointed to the spot and DARREN WILLIAMS netted from 12 yards.  Despite trying to find that vital second goal neither side succeeded during the remainder of the half and as with last season’s Final the game went to extra time.

With both teams looking tired Cowes created the better chances, Jordan Browne testing Jamie Bray. the winning goal came in the 115th minute when a cross into the Cowes area saw Ed Hatt come for the ball, but he dropped the ball which eventually found substitute RYAN GREGORY, a recent signing from Blackfield & Langley, who made no mistake from close range and condemn The Yachtsmen to another defeat.
