COWES SPORTS RESERVES    3  –  1    FOLLANDS SPORTS RESERVES

Manager Dean Ray named a strong young side, for the first game of a double header, against a youthful Follands Sports Reserves.

The visitors forced the early pace and saw a corner from their left fly across the face of goal with nobody able to get a touch. Dan Verstraeten played a lovely ball inside their full back for Mikey Jones to run onto, he crossed from the right but Arthur Bradbury’s touch was saved by George Stanton in goal for Follands. Further chances were had as Jimmy Wykes went close and Arthur Bradbury curled his effort just wide.

The Visitors eventually broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Cowes failed to clear their lines and JAMIE BETTERIDGE fired home from ten yards. Jamie Dyer went close for the home side but his shot went wide of target as Follands led at the break.

H-t 0 – 1

A steady start to the second half for the first 15, then the hosts took over with three goals in EIGHT minutes to secure a well earned victory.

Firstly, on the hour, Callum Taylor fought his way into the area where he was brought down by Aaron Rawlings, Referee Derek Hughes pointed to the spot, skipper JAMES FLUX stepped up to send keeper George Stanton the wrong way to equalise. Follands responded well to the setback as a cross from their right nearly found the top right of the Cowes goal before a long throw was only cleared to the edge of the area where a shot at goal went just wide of the upright. Non stop action as the Islanders took the lead in the 64th minute, Robbie Taylor broke down the Cowes right, his cross found CALLUM TAYLOR who controlled the ball well before firing into the bottom right corner of the Follands goal. Follands substitute Mackenzie New should have leveled but he put his header wide of the goal. To add to the visitors misery, a breathtaking mazey run by James Eldridge ended with him slotting the ball into CALLUM TAYLOR’S path before he once again found the bottom right corner of the goal for goal number three.
