COWES SPORTS    0 – 2   HYTHE + DIBDEN

Attendance62

This league game was switched from Hythe + Dibden’s new Clayfields ground due too problems with the pitch. Cowes came into the game on the back of a two week break, games against Ringwood Town and Romsey Town both having fallen too the heavy rain, but their previous outing had resulted in a magnificent win at Team Solent, so confidence was high.

The home side struggled early in the game and this gave Hythe + Dibden the initiative and they did not need a second chance and in the 20th minute Cowes failed to clear their lines and the loose ball fell to MERL WRIGHT who gleefully poked the ball into Ed Hatt’s goal to give the Watersiders an unexpected lead. Cowes rarely threatened to equalise and the visitors held onto the lead at the break. Experienced front-men, Player Manager Lee Burch and Mark Lilley caused Cowes a lot of problems.

H-t 0 – 1

Despite a rollocking at half time the Island side did not improve after the break although recent signing from Newport, Tom Scovell, did have a good opportunity three minutes into the second half but screwed his shot wide of Frederick Toomer’s left hand post. It was no surprise when the mainlanders doubled their advantage on 57 minutes when a ball across the face of goal from the Hythe right gifted LEE BURCH the easiest of chances too score and condemn the Yachtsmen too a damaging defeat in their quest for promotion.
