COWES SPORTS   4 – 1  EAST COWES VICS

Attendance — 154

Easter Monday and Cowes Sports played host to their near neighbours from across the River Medina, East Cowes Vics, their final game of the season.

Although Nathan Lewis, Ryan Gregory and Jez Conway all returned for this fixture, all three were named on the bench as Manger Richie Woodburn kept the same XI that started at Romsey Town two days earlier.

Once again Cowes got off to a flying start as they took the lead after just six minutes when Aleks Przespolewski sent a ball from right to left picking out JOHN MCKIE who controlled it before cutting inside his marker before beating James Green at his near post. East Cowes Vics showed that they would be no pushovers as they nearly equalised on 14 minutes when Jason Peach broke through the Cowes defence firing across the Cowes goal, Tom O’Brien getting a touch to put it out of play for a corner. John McKie had a shot blocked by James Green before he had to be replaced by Nathan Lewis following an knee injury. From the re-start in play Cowes got possession, played the ball into the Vics area where Jared Wetherick was fouled and Referee Peter Lowe awarded the home side a penalty from which ALEKSANDER PRZESPOLEWSKI sent James Green the wrong way to double the home sides lead.

H-t 2 – 0

Early second half pressure saw Jimmy Wykes hit the right post before the third goal was scored. Aidan Bryan ventured forward into the Vics area before playing in substitute, and former Vics player, JEZ CONWAY who calmly slotted home from eight yards. Mid way through the half and the visitors were handed a life line when Ji Nash chased a hopeful long punt upfield into the Cowes area, Ed Hatt came out to challenge but did not appear to touch their forward who headed the ball out of play but fell to the ground, again Referee pointed to the penalty spot and JOSH CRAIG netted a consolation goal. Four minutes from the end young Tom O’Brien sent in a cross from the Cowes left which flew over their keeper to pick out JARED WETHERICK by the back post who volleyed into an unguarded net for a fourth for the home side and make sure the points were secured and keep up the pressure on Tadley Calleva in the race for second spot and promotion to the Premier Division.
