IoW DFA Saturday League Division 3 – Wednesday September 9th 2015

Cowes Sports ‘A’    0 – 1     Pan Sports FC

It was the league favourites Pan who came away with all three points on Wednesday night at Northwood Rec, with a last minute winner against a below par performance from the youngsters. Cowes started brightly enough and should’ve taken the lead after 10 mins when Jack Broomfield broke clear, but he hit his shot straight at the keeper. We had another couple of opportunities to break the deadlock, but wrong choices in and around the box allowed Pan to clear their lines.  Pan started to get back into the half, not due to their football, but because we kept giving the ball away, and we ended up putting ourselves under needless pressure. Our first touch wasn’t up to the standard it had been in previous games and we seemed to be a little intimidated by them, when there was no need to be! We finished the half the better side and probably deserved to be in front but it wasn’t to be.

The second half was much the same as the first, even with the changes that were made, players were trying to do too much and giving the ball away cheaply. Pan were limited to a couple more chances than they did in the first half, but the defence marshalled by Charlie and the hard working Jake in front of him never really looked troubled. A draw would’ve been a fair result, and both teams would’ve taken a point, but in the dying seconds, Pan scrambled the ball into the net from a corner to win the match.  It was gutting for the boys, but I’m sure they’ll learn and bounce back from this, and be right up their challenging come the end of the season.
