IoW DFA Saturday League

Division 3 – Saturday 14th November 2015

COWES SPORTS ‘A’  8 – 0  BEMBRIDGE ‘A’

The young Yachtsmen jumped up to fourth in the table with a fantastic team performance against a Bembridge side who could not field their first team players like they did in the previous meeting earlier in the season. In wet and windy conditions the side played some lovely passing football and it was no surprise when they took the lead just 6mins into the game with a goal from NICKY VYSE. The midfield players were chasing and battling for everything. Not only were they getting forward and creating chances for our strikers, they were also chasing back and supporting the defence which is a part of the game that had been missing in previous matches. On 12mins JOE CRAIG extended the lead when he latched onto a through ball, wrong footed their keeper with a back heel to score. With Jaymie Icke in goal marshaling the defence, Bembridge never really looked like scoring and on 23mins, RYAN FLYNN broke through their off side trap to sprint clear and make it 3-0. Before half time Cowes had another couple of chances to score, but hit the post and bar.

H-t 3 – 0

In the second period the home side were more or less camped in the Bembridge half and in the 55th minute RYAN FLYNN scored his second to make it four. The best goal of the game though came on 62mins. RUPERT BOWLES started the move from left back, after exchanging passes with Jordon Whittle, then Ryan Flynn, found himself clear on goal, as the keeper came out to close him down, he calmly lobbed him to make it 5-0. You could see that Bembridge were physically tiring and Cowes’ midfield were in total control. On 70mins Nicky Vyse’s pace allowed him to break clear down the right wing and RYAN FLYNN latched onto his cross to make it 6-0 and complete his hat-trick. JORDAN CHAPMAN then deservedly got a goal after being put through by Ryan Brenchley. After sprinting clear he wrong footed the keeper to take the ball round him and net. Four minutes from time the scoring was completed when RYAN FLYNN grabbed his fourth and cap off a very good all round team performance by Russ Chapman’s young side.
