COWES SPORTS    0 v 2   ANDOVER TOWN

Attendance:- 90

Buoyed by the previous weeks victory away at Alresford, Richie Woodburn’s team were looking to continue with another win at home to Andover Town. Not for the first time this season the away side turned up with a clash of colours expecting Cowes to change. This did not happen and Andover were forced to wear a set of Newport Vets shirts despite being offered a change kit by Cowes, but they did not want to pay for the washing of the kit. Good job Jamie Bray plays for them and he got his Dad to get a set of shirts.

Andover made the better start to the game and Cowes keeper Ed Hatt done well in the 7th minute to push their forward wide forcing him to send his shot wide of the goal. Cowes responded when Aidan Sainsbury sent a free kick inches over the Andover cross bar with Jamie Bray well beaten. The turning point in the game came on the half hour when, having been booked a few minutes earlier, Aidan Sainsbury lunged into a tackle near the half way line that left Referee Josh Osofa no option but to give Aidan a second yellow card followed by a red. Despite being a man short Cowes battled on bravely. Keelan Sainsbury watched as his free kick was tipped over the bar by Jamie Bray before, right on half time, Ed Hatt saved well from Michael Dixon.

A minute into the second half again Jamie Bray denied the home side, this time he pushed a Jordan Browne header away for a corner. Cowes were then hit by a sucker punch as a quick break saw CHARLIE GUNSON get on the end of a cross from the left to beat Ed Hatt and give the visitors the lead. Cowes tried hard to find a way back into the game but the closest they came to equalising was when Dexter Malin’s snapshot flew just wide of target. In the final minute Andover were awarded a soft penalty that BRADLEY BENSON smashed home to seal the points for the visiting side.

All in all Cowes played very well considering they played an hour with ten men, but could not find the killer instinct in front of goal.
