COWES SPORTS   1 – 2  FAWLEY AFC

Attendance:- 67

The Yachtsmen played host to Fawley AFC with the visitors just one place above the relegation places and having beaten them on their own patch back in December by the odd goal in three, although it should have been a lot more comfortable on the night.

So a home victory was expected by all the fans that turned up on a cold, windy Saturday afternoon, other than Fawley following. Cowes welcomed back Edward Sanders following his transfer from Blackfield & Langley whilst Jimmy Wykes replaced the suspended John McKie.

An early Keelan Sainsbury cross saw Fawley right back knee his clearance just over the bar. Ed Sanders then directed a header to Jordan Browne whose overhead kick flew inches wide of target. Fawley then silenced the Westwood crowd by taking the lead in the 29th minute when a cross into the box was dropped by keeper Ed Hatt, the ball eventually falling to winger BEN BOLTON who rolled the ball into the empty net. The Island side tried to respond and got their equaliser in the 43rd minute when AIDAN SAINSBURY netted with a low shot into the bottom right corner from the edge of the area.

H-t 1 – 1

The strong wind blowing around the ground was not helping either side to play good football, but the visitors did adapt better than the home team and it came as no surprise when the “Oilers” retook the lead in the 73rd minute when Cowes failed to clear their lines and ZAC WILLIS drilled home from 16 yards. Despite plenty of effort from Cowes they failed to create and real chances to level the scores.
