Hampshire County Youth Cup Round 1 (10 Oct 10) Cowes Under 18′s v Camberley Town A Under 18′s

Cowes Sports  5 – 0 Camberley Town A

In an uneventful first half there were periods of sustained possession from the home side, who were wrestling control of the midfield, but with little end product. Camberley went close a couple of times but Jordan Brownrigg responded positively.

The action came thick and fast in the second half as within two minutes a superb Peter Crews corner was met by a Connor Patrick header for Cowes to take the lead. Five minutes later a Camberley handball saw Nathan Lewis convert a great penalty. Cowes controlled the game and another accurate Crews corner was met by Patrick to add to the goal tally.

Charlie Allen, nursing an injury from Saturday, was replaced by Joe Winchcombe who had some good touches on the ball. A one on one with the keeper saw Ollie Smith chip the ball in the net. After a nasty challenge on Winchcombe, his reaction prompted referee Dave Brunt to produce an immediate red card.

Five minutes before the whistle Smith slotted another ball home. Cowes were very good defensively and set pieces in the opposite third were crucial to the end result.

Match Report: Hampshire County Youth League Cup Match (26/9/10) Ryde Saints U18 v Cowes Sports U18

Ryde Saints  0 – 7  Cowes Sports

Cowes had the start they had been seeking since the beginning of the season when James Wykes opened the scoring in the first ten minutes. A host of chances arrived before Ollie Smith easily netted another eight minutes later. Cowes held their shape and kept possession well. Nathan Lewis launched a superb free-kick towards the far post for a tidy goal.

The hosts had a combative spirit fighting for the ball. Thirty minutes into the first half Charlie Allen delivered the ball directly to James Wykes, who seized the opportunity inside the box, to reach the back of the net with an accurate left foot. Cowes then enjoyed their best move before the break when a neat combination between Charlie Allen and Blake Reeves gave Peter Crews time to cross, and Nathan Lewis again tested the keeper, who made a great save.

Just before the half time whistle a Charlie Allen half volley 20 yards out sent the ball past the keeper via a Connor Patrick dummy.

A Cowes substitution was made at half time, while Ryde never gave up trying, and if it wasn’t for the outstanding performance of their keeper the score would have been a lot higher as Cowes dominated throughout.

Charlie Allen reacted quickest to an Ollie Smith cross to score from 18 yards out. Then Ollie Smith had a solo run to smash a shot home to end the game.

Match Report: Hampshire County Youth League, Div 1 (19 September 2010) Clanfield U18 v Cowes U18

Clanfield 3 -1 Cowes

Cowes were hampered from the start when only 9 players turned up at the Red Jet, but all players wanted to travel to Clanfield.

The first ten minutes Cowes defended well and Clanfield found it hard to push forward, with Cowes rising to the challenge with a spirited start. Thirty five minutes into the game a Clanfield goal came from nowhere but Cowes always looked capable of hitting back, continuing to create chances but with no reward. Joe Winchcombe made two excellent saves just before the half time whistle and impressed throughout.

Cowes had a tough task in the second half with Clanfield scoring in the first five minutes, but Cowes kept their heads and pushed forward. Jack Broomfield stepped up to take a free kick outside the area which tested the oppositions goalkeeper. With fifteen minutes to go Blake Reeves broke with the ball at left back, clipping to Ollie Smith who took on three players before squaring the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box to Charlie Allen, who laid it off to Nathan Lewis for a cool, calm, collected finish to complete the move of the match.

Cowes hoped to salvage a point and continued to dominate but could not find the vital goals to add to the score sheet. Lack of players finally showed in the last couple of minutes when Clanfield once again found the back of the net. The score line did not reflect the match with a great battling performance from Cowes. All nine players contributed to an action packed game.

Match Report: Hampshire County Youth League, Div 1 (12 September 2010) Horndean U18 v Cowes U18

Horndean 3 – Cowes 1

Cowes Under 18′s travelled to Horndean on Sunday for their first game of the season.

They got off to a great start when Blake Reeves tapped in a lovely goal in the second minute. For the first twenty minutes Cowes frustrated Horndean, not allowing them on the ball and had much of the possession.

Cowes’ spirit was commendable but a lack of concentration allowed Horndean to equalise and three minutes later the same mistake led to a second goal. Horndean picked up their game before slotting home their third goal just before the half time whistle.

The two subs were brought on and and the second half was a much better effort with Cowes keeping possession and shape. They set the pace early on but failed to capitalise. Nathan Lewis and James Flux worked tirelessly throughout. A string of chances came and went but poor finishing denied Cowes any more goals but they kept their heads up and fought til the final whistle.
