Match Report: Cowes Sports Reserves v Ventnor

ISLE OF WIGHT SATURDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 30TH 2017

COWES SPORTS RESERVES 4 v 3 VENTNOR

In an exciting tussle with a decent Ventnor side, the Reserves picked up another three points last Saturday, but they were hanging on right up to the final whistle.

A dubious penalty, awarded when the Referee believed Darren Williams had been brought down in the box, led to a remarkable act of sportsmanship on Darren’s part as he deliberately fired the spot-kick wide, having disagreed with the decision. We did however take the lead when the impressive Callum Watkins fired home.

Just before the break Callum Watkins doubled the lead with a neat header and almost straight from the second half kick-off, Ben Holdsworth made it three.

Two goals from the visitors almost became three, but they also missed a penalty, before Ben Holdsworth got a fourth.

Still the visitors refused to give up and pulled back another goal, but we managed to hold on for the three points that moved us up into mid-table.
