Hamble ASSC Res - 1
Following their mid week Combination Cup exit at the hands of Fareham Town Reserves, Cowes' second string returned to winning ways with a well earned victory over a determined Hamble side showing several changes from when the two sides met earlier in the season.
A close first half saw the home side create the better chances but fail to make the most of them until the 33rd minute when Michael Pointer's header fell to top scorer CASEY TYRELL who controlled the ball, beat a defender before tucking his shot past the visiting keeper.
On the stroke of half time Phil Willey's left foot shot hit the top of the Hamble crossbar.
A very open start to the second half saw the visitors go close whilst Cowes tried to take advantage of the gaps at the other end, but Dan Cantelo, Chris Elliott and Matty Evans were all thwarted by the keeper.
The Yachtsman increased their lead on 64 mins when Michael Pointer set up MATTHEW EVANS whose calm finish doubled the lead which soon became three as MATTHEW EVANS had an easy tap in following good work by Phil Willey two minutes later.
A trip on Phil Willey in the area on 78 mins gave Evans the opportunity to complete his hat-trick, but his spot kick sailed well over the crossbar. Hamble's former VT striker SHANE FOULKES drove in a consolation goal in the 85th minute but it was too little too late for Hamble.
