Match report: 24 November 2007,

Sydenhams Wessex League, Combination One

Cowes Sports FC Res- 2
Winchester City FC Res - 3

After having tried to throw away a three goal advantage in their previous match at Laverstock, it was Cowes's turn to try and find a way back from being three down in their home fixture against Winchester City last Saturday, and, like Laverstock, they could not qute find the equaliser.

The Yachtsman found themselves a goal behind inside two minutes when a ball from the left found the Winchester left winger totally unmarked at the far post and he made no mistake from 12 yards, planting the ball inside Joe McCormack's left hand post.

Worse was to follow for Cowes as the visitors threatened to build a cricket score with some very good football. on 13 minutes they doubled their lead when their forward took full advantage of some poor defending by the home side to fire a second past Joe McCormack from 20 yards.

The helpless Cowes keeper was again beaten on 20 minutes as winchester scored a third goal with some simple one touch football.

The Islanders really needed a response before half time if they were going to get anything out of the match, once again the lifeline came via the pace and skills of top scorer CASEY TYRELL when, in the 37th minute, he cut inside from the Cowes right before unleashing a powerful left foot shot from the edge of the box which took a deflection past the wrong footed Winchester keeper.

Following a half time rollocking from manager Kenny Adams, Cowes came out for the second half determined to try and get at least a point from the game. Whilst they had plenty of possession the visiting defence played extremely well to limit the number of goalscoring opportunities for the home side.

Eventually the pressure paid off as CASEY TYRELL netted his and Cowes' second goal from close range in the 65th minute. Although Cowes pressed hard for the equaliser they could not find a way through to goal thus slumping to another home defeat.
