Cowes Sports F.C. - 4
Romsey Town F.C. - 2

The Yachtsmen pulled three points clear of their closest rivals, Romsey Town on Saturday with an emphatic victory over them at Westwood on Saturday.

Both sides had early chances to score but their efforts went wide.
After fourteen minutes, Cowes took the lead when a James Butt free-kick was met by Adam Barsdell at the near post and his close-range volley found the corner of the net.

Wayne Newnham went close with a couple of decent efforts and Barsdell shot wide with only the keeper to beat.

The visitors drew level on forty minutes when De’ath ran through the Cowes defence to beat Rich Newbury with ease.

Almost immediately Cowes retook the lead when the Romsey keeper, Hookway slipped, while dribbling the ball in his area, leaving Ashley Wright the simple task of finding the empty net.

In the last minute of the half, Rich Newbury brought down a Romsey forward, who had latched on to a back pass, in the penalty area and De’ath converted the resulting spot kick.

After Charlie Smeeton had seen his shot brilliantly tipped over by Hookway, Ashley Wright set him up with a deft header and this time he made no mistake as he lobbed the advancing keeper, to regain the initiative for the Yachtsmen.

With fifteen minutes left, Cowes made the game safe. Ashley Wright was again the provider, his cross from the left, finding Wayne Newnham, whose header back could only be helped into the net by a defender.
