Hampshire Saturday Senior Cup sponsored by  BSA REGALTuesday October 8th

Cowes knew, following their victory over Fawley AFC that they were in for a very tough game against Premier Division favourites Sholing. Sholing made four changes from the side that had beaten Winchester City the previous Friday evening, whilst Cowes were missing Charlie Allen(shoulder injury) with Jordan Browne starting on the bench along side Michael Jones, Callum Taylor and new signing, but old face,Stephen Perfect.

Sholing showed heir intentions from the start, Lee Wort shooting wide of target in the second minute. The Yachtsmen were under pressure from the word go but defended with great resilience. Kevin Brewster’s free kick was headed over by Byron Mason in the 10th minute before the same player broke through, keeper Ed Hatt came off his line but the ball was clipped over him only to rebound back into his arms off the post. Danny Hatcher shot wide of target in the 36th minute after being played in by Jared Wetherick before Joe Phelps fired well wide. Sholing had to wait until the final minute of the first half before finally finding the back of the Cowes goal when a cross from the left back area gave NICK WATTS the simplest of chances to put the mainland side ahead.

The second half eventually saw one way traffic towards the Cowes goal, although Ryan Gregory tested Matt Renolf in the Sholing goal in the 52nd minute only to see prolific scorer, LEE WORT, double Sholing’s advantage two minutes later. Cowes responded well with Jared Wetherick twice forcing Matt Renolf into saves to keep his side two up. Nick Watts then hit Ed Hatts right hand upright before PETE CASTLE headed home number three from a corner. Cowes never gave up and Michael Jones, on in place of Oliver Wilson, headed over from close range and Nathan Lewis shot straight at Matt Renolf. LEE WORT added a fourth goal beating Ed Hatt at his near post in the 76th minute before KEVIN BREWSTER added a fifth on 81 minutes. Jared Wetherick nearly gave Cowes a consolation goal but Matt Renolf was at his best to deny him. The evening finished with Ed Hatt parrying away a header from a corner only to see    score from the rebound to complete a miserable evening for the Yachtsmen.
