COWES SPORTS                 6 –   1     EAST COWES VICS

Finally, for the third time of asking, this local derby got the go ahead. The pitch was in remarkable condition given the recent rain that had fallen and, just to put a spanner in the works, before kick off, that was put back 15minutes due to the Referee – James Robinson being caught in traffic/accident problems, the rain came down although it was fine rain rather than heavy.

With Jared Wetherick(injured) and Aidan Bryan(college) both unavailable, Manager Richie Woodburn was forced into changes. Ryan Gregory moved in to center half whilst Lee Davies dropped to left back and former Vics player Joe Adams started for the first time since his move across the Medina. Darren Williams and Joe Phelps came into the central midfield spots in place of Oliver Wilson and Ross Gregory who dropped to the bench.

Prior to kick off presentations of the PROSPECT FINANCIAL PLANNING ” Player of the Month” awards for November and December were made by Chairman IAN LEE to KEELAN SAINSBURY and NATHAN LEWIS respectively.

The Yachtsmen flew out of the blocks as they raced into a two goal lead within the first four minutes. Lee Davies broke down the Cowes left before crossing into the area where JORDAN BROWNE netted the opening goal in the second minute of the game. Just two minutes later and the home side doubled their lead when a superb defence splitting ball from Jordan Browne again found Lee Davies racing down the left before crossing to JOHN McKIE to fire home from 6yards. It looked as though it could be a long night for Vics, but to their credit they fought hard and never gave up. Daniel Russell, in the Vics goal, then produced two very good saves to deny John McKie adding a third goal before he sent in a teasing cross which nobody got a touch to. Former Cowes player and current Vics skipper, Chris Elliott finally tested Will Hunt in the Cowes goal with a shot from 30 yards which was comfortably gathered. Joe Adams then crossed for Jordan Browne to head the ball goal-wards, but Dan Russell produced an excellent save at the expense of a corner, from which Joe Phelps saw his header cleared off the line but NATHAN LEWIS was on hand to head the ball back into the goal for Cowes’ third goal in the 29th minute. From the re-start Vics immediately pulled a goal back as Cowes went to sleep at the back, ROBBIE SHEPPHERD taking advantage to net past Will Hunt. Minutes later Chris Elliott watched as his free kick smashed against the Cowes crossbar, but any thought of a comeback were extinguished in the 35th minute, a throw on the right into JORDAN BROWNE on the left edge of the Vics area was controlled, with a couple of defenders around him he managed to find a bit of room before bending the ball through several players into the right corner of the Vics goal for a 4 – 1 lead. Shortly before half time Cowes produced an excellent move that ended with Nathan Lewis firing a shot inches wide of the goal.

H-t 4 1

Cowes continued to dominate the game in the second half as Joe Adams pinched the ball of Vics but sent his shot wide of target. Nathan Lewis was replaced by Oliver Wilson in the 51st minute before Max Draper came on for Keelan Sainsbury. Another good move saw John McKie turn and hit the ball against the Vics post before Jordan Browne saw his effort pushed away by Dan Russell. Ollie Wilson was next to try his luck but again fired wide of target. JORDAN BROWNE was then played in on goal but was unceremoniously upended in the box by Jez Conway, a penalty was awarded but only a yellow card shown. Jordan picked himself up to complete his hat trick from the resulting spot kick. Adam Sunsburg replaced Joe Phelps with 15 minutes to go. John McKie again hit the post before in the final minute of the game Joe Adams raced down the Cowes right before setting up JOHN McKIE for a simple tap-in and a sixth goal to end the scoring. A win that sees Cowes move up to third in the table.
