The Yachtsmen came into this League match  looking to extend their winning streak that stood at 11 before the game. They knew that the visitors would not make it easy especially following the 1 – 1 draw at Barlows Park earlier in the season.

Before the game started both sides gathered around the center circle and all supporters were upstanding for one minutes silence in memory of long time Cowes supporter BOB MILLS who had sadly passed away the previous week. Condolences from all at Cowes Sports to his Family and Friends. He will certainly be missed at away games which he attended when able.

Also skipper CRAIG INSLEY presented a cheque for £50 to local singer/songwriter SAM SHEASBY (pictured left)who accepted it on behalf of the parents of the late Sophie Rolf who set up the Kissy Puppy Charity which helps raise funds for the Childrens section of Earl Mountbatten Hospice.    Craig Insley presenting cheque to Sam Sheasby

Cowes suffered a setback to their hopes as early as the second minute of the game when Keelan Sainsbury won a header ten yards inside the Tadley half but fell awkwardly on his elbow suffering a dislocationwhich Kevin Winchcombe and Dean Ray attended to before Keelan was taken to hospital for treatment. Oliver Wilson came on too replace Keelan. Cowes then took a little time to settle,  but once they did they began to play some good football, Lee Davies going close in the 14th minute before Jordan Browne created a chance for himself but his shot flew just over the bar. Tadley’s African striker  Toluwamni Sotoyne was very lucky to escape a red card mid way through the first half when as the ball was played across field , he appeared headbutt then stamp on Ollie Wilson, but none of the Officials saw exactly what happened although Cowes were awarded a free kick. The best chance of the half came in the 31st minute when visiting keeper Luke Parker-Woods done well to tip a John McKie effort over the bar for a corner. Finally the breakthrough came in the 41st minute when Ryan Gregory sent a free kick into the box which was not dealt with by the Tadley defence, the ball eventually fell to top scorer JORDAN BROWNE who saw his effort hit the post and keeper before nestling in the corner of the goal, much to the relief of all at Westwood Park.

H-t 1 – 0

The home side came out for the second half determined to show the crowd that they were challengers for promotion, within a minute Joe Phelps came close with a header before a second goal was added to knock the stuffing out of Tadley when in the 48th minute a poor attempted clearance found JORDAN BROWNE who took a touch before sweeping the ball past their keeper and into the net. A rare attack from the visitors saw a shot from distance fly just wide of Will Hunt’s goal before Toluwamni Sotoyne hit a shot over the bar, the closest they came all night to troubling the Cowes defence.

In the 80th minute the Island side added a deserved third goal when LEE DAVIES volleyed home from 22 yards, this was quickly followed by JOHN McKIE unleashing a shot across their goal from the right side of the penalty area into the far side of the goal having used his strength to make the opening. A great way to finish off what some may say their best performance of the season and keep the pressure on the top two sides in the Division.
