Cowes Sports traveled too New Milton for this 2nd Round Russell Cotes cup tie, both sides having won their league match by 3-2 the previous Saturday. Cowes made several changes with Jimmy Wykes, Jez Conway, Adam Sunsburg, Lee Davies and Jared Wetherick all starting whist Oliver Wilson and Callum Taylor were on the bench. New Milton made two changes to their starting line up and one on the bench.

As expected New Milton cane out of the traps quickly twice in the first 12 minutes came close to taking the lead. Joe Butcher had the Islanders first chance when he ran at the left back but sent his shot wide of goal, he then cut inside from the Cowes right and curled a shot towards the New Milton goal but again the ball went wide of the right hand upright. New Milton took the lead on 31 minutes when following a couple of blocked shots JAMES SHERING fired home from an angle. Cowes responded with Lee Davies testing the home keeper but the home side remained ahead at half time.

H-t 1 – 0

Five minutes into the second half Gareth Bricknell saw his free kick superbly tipped onto the bar by the home keeper before from the resulting corner a header thumped the crossbar. Chances were coming at both ends but it was Cowes Sports who leveled on the hour when JORDAN BROWNE netted from close range. But straight away New Milton regained the lead when a cross from the left edge of the Cowes box found KABBA JACK who sent a header past Ed Hatt into the goal. Both keepers produced some very good saves and blocks to deny any further goals which saw the home side progress to the Quarter Finals and a home game against Ringwood Town.
