For the second successive Saturday Cowes Sports entertained Tadley Calleva in the battle of the two remaining undefeated teams in Division One following the abandonment of the game seven days earlier due to the weather with the home side 2 – 0 ahead.

Prior to kick off Cowes Sports skipper Craig Insley was presented with the October “Team of the Month” award by Sydenhams Football League Secretary John Gorman, the fifth successive month that the Yachtsmen have won the award. Both sides then gathered around the center circle as everyone in the ground observed a minute’s silence in memory of all who had lost their lives in wars throughout the past 100 years.

The only changes for the home side were on the bench, Jez Conway and Simon Williams replacing Lee Davies and Ross Gregory. The visitors however welcomed back leading scorer Brett Denham too the starting line up in place of Adam Allinson, whilst Jason Kingston and Ben Wickens replaced James Milford and Ashley Ledger who both dropped to the bench.

Cowes started the game at a furious pace working hard all over the pitch, playing some good slick football when in possession and closing their opponents down when they had the ball. With just seven minutes on the clock Gareth Bricknell done well wide on the Cowes left before picking out ENRIQUE VILLAR who netted from 8 yards to give the Yachtsmen the start they wanted.

Enrique Villar puts Cowes one up 15-11     Celebrations 1-0 15-11 Further glory for the Yachtsmen’s popular Spaniard in the 15th minute when a ball through the center of the Tadley defence saw ENRIQUE VILLAR through on goal and he calmly slotted the ball past Tom Hindmarsh into the left corner of the Tadley goal to send the majority at Westwood into raptures , 2 – 0 up so early in the game and the visitors in disarray.

2 - 0 Cowes Enrique Villar again 15-11    and celebrations 15-11  Cowes were certainly “in the mood” for more goals and nearly added a third on twenty minutes when Enrique Villar saw his shot drift just wide of the keeper left hand post. Finally the visitors threatened the Cowes goal in the 29th minute when a cross from the left was chested down by James Tennant for top scorer Brett Denham to send his shot wide of the Cowes left upright. With no further goal mouth action in the first half the Islanders went in at the break two up and totally in charge of the game.

H-t 2 – 0

Cowes began the second half where they had left off in the first, putting the Tadley defence under considerable pressure and ten minutes into the half a third goal was added when Enrique Villar closed down the Tadley defender in possession in the left back area, nicked the ball off him before sending it into the area, they failed to clear the danger and JOE ADAMS smashed the ball into the roof of the goal.

Joe Adams(hidden) hits number three 15-11

Cowes were now in full control and Joe Adams again tested the visitors keeper, Tom Hindmarsh, who this time did well to block his effort away for a corner. John McKie and Jared Wetherick were sent on in place of Joe Butcher and Jordan Browne respectively, but against the run of play, it was Tadley who scored the next goal when a silly free kick was conceded 30 yards from Ed Hatts goal. Center half ANDREW CHARLSLEY stepped up to thump the ball past Ed Hatt into the left corner of his goal to give them hope of a comeback. Cowes seemed to become a bit nervous and Tadley sensed they could get something from the game as they piled on the pressure in the final ten minutes. Substitute Ashley Ledger tested Ed Hatt who saved well down to his right before another Tadley effort was deflected onto the Cowes crossbar before being cleared. Ed Hatt then had to at his best to stop a header form going in. Cowes had a rare break as John McKie forced a save by Tom Hindmarsh John McKie chases ball down left 15-11  before the visitors added a second goal in the 91st minute when ASHLEY LEDGER headed past Ed Hatt form six yards to set up a very tense couple of minutes for Cowes, but they held on for the three points and remain the only unbeaten side in the division, sitting nicely in sixth place with at least two games in hand on all above them.
