FLEET SPURS 1 – 1 COWES SPORTS
The Yachtsmen traveled up the M3 to Kennels Lane, the home of Fleet Spurs, for this league encounter without the injured Ryan Gregory(broken hand), Gareth Bricknell(suspended) and Enrique Villar(unavailable).
It should have been a perfect start for the visitors when from the kick off the ball was played back too Sergio Castellano who sent the ball upfield towards John McKie, a home defender missed his clearance allowing the Cowes wide man to speed down the left wing before sending in a great cross that Jordan Browne met with a flicked header that unfortunately came back off the Fleet Spurs left hand post before being cleared. After such a bright start the game saw Cowes have plenty of possession and look the more likely to score, but direct shots at goal were at a premium, the home side never really threatening the Cowes goal. Then, three minutes before the break a John McKie cross was headed clear by a defender to the edge of the box where Nathan Lewis entered the box only to be fouled. Referee Michael Fogt immediately pointed to the penalty spot and JARED WETHERICK netted his fifth penalty of the season.
H-t 0 – 1
Fleet Spurs came out for the second half well fired up and completely dominated the game, but some resolute defending by the Cowes back line there appeared to be no way through to Ed Hatts goal. Chance after chance went a begging, but just when it looked like the Yachtsmen would hang on, the home side finally got the little bit of luck they deserved when a mistake by Joe Adams was pounced upon by JAMIL OLWENEY who fired the ball past Ed Hatt from around 10 yards to equalize. The closest Cowes came to getting a winner was when Jordan Browne’s low shot was gathered by home keeper Mark Appleby.
Credit to Fleet Spurs who looked a very good side in the second half and fully deserved at least a point if not all three, but as for Cowes it must be rather worrying for the Management team the way the team played(or didn’t as the case may be) during the second half.
