Attendance: 83

Fresh from their excellent F A Cup Replay victory, the Islanders entertained Brockenhurst in their latest Premier Division game. Jez Conway, Tom Scovell, Aidan Sainsbury and John McKie all started as Richie Woodburn gave all his players some game time, Keelan Sainsbury, Dexter Malin and Joe Adams dropped to the bench. Brockenhurst came into the game fresh from two 2 – 0 victories over Fareham Town(F A Cup) and Team Solent(League) so traveled to the Island full of confidence.

Referee Ethan Davids was called into action very early in the game when John McKie was bundled over in the Brock’ area but he waved ‘play on’ to the amazement of everyone(including our opponents) by giving Cowes a corner. From a 5th minute Ollie Wilson corner Tom Scovell fired into the side netting from beyond the back post before Charlie Smeeton sent a shot over the bar. Against the run of play the Badgers took the lead in the 13th minute when a through ball found MARK BARKER who rounded keeper Ed Hatt before rolling the ball into an empty goal. Cowes responded well and a 20th minute Jordan Browne shot came back off of the Brockenhurst right hand post. A minute later and the visitors broke down the Cowes right into the area, full back Max Draper tried to get in a tackle which the forward evaded but ran the ball out of play, the Referee’s whistle was blown for what Cowes thought would be a goal kick, he though, thought otherwise and gave the New Forest side a penalty from which KABBA JACK netted a second goal. Fans and players alike were furious with the decision as were the Cowes Management which ended with Manager Richie Woodburn being sent to the stands by the Referee. Cowes seemed to be inspired by what had happened and were back in the game in the 26th minute when JORDAN BROWNE and Tom Scovell played a neat one-two inside their box with the former slipping the ball past Callum Maher in the Brock’ goal, game on!!!

Just past the half hour and the scores were level as their keeper dallied with the ball on the edge of his area, John McKie nipped in to challenge, CHARLIE SMEETON picked up the loose ball, beat the recovering keeper to score his third goal in two games. The crowd of 83 were enthralled in a very entertaining game, and had more to cheer about in the 40th minute when Tom Scovell’s left footed free kick form wide on the right found Jordan Browne with a free header at goal, Callum Maher done well to push the ball away but Cowes’ skipper NATHAN LEWIS was on hand to smash home from close range and give the Yachtsmen the lead for the first time in the game.

H-t 3 – 2

Surely the second half could not be as exciting as the first. Brockenhurst threw everything they had at the Cowes defence, but the home side were not in the mood to give anymore goals away. Mark Barker twice had shots at goal, his 54th minute effort flew over the bar whilst twenty minutes later Ed Hatt got down quick to his left to save. In between Kabba jack saw his shot beat away by Ed Hatt. At the other end Charlie Smeeton played in John McKie, but Callum Maher blocked his shot. With 14 minutes remaining the Island side made the game safe when Jez Conway sent a ball into the heart of the Brockenhurst defence which picked out JOHN MCKIE whom placed the ball past Callum Maher into the goal for Cowes’ fourth of the game, thus securing their first League victory back in the Premier Division.
