Attendance:- 104

Following two cup defeats the Yachtsmen returned to League action with a very tough looking fixture against former Southern League side and one of the title favourites, Sholing. Aidan Bryan, Simon Williams and Max Draper came into the starting line up with Aidan Sainsbury joining brother Keelan, Ben Gregory, Jimmy Wykes and Jason Ince on the bench.

August POM Prior to kick off DAVE DRAPER presented DEXTER MALIN with The HOLIDAY SHOP and A L S TRAVEL “Player of the Month” award for August 2015.

A bright start by the home side saw Dexter Malin claiming a penalty in the first minute when his shot hit a defender’s arm but the Referee ruled that it was not deliberate, the shot being from close range to the player. Dexter Malin then had another effort diverted for a corner. The visitors first chance came in the 13th minute from a corner when Dean Faithfull headed wide of target when he should really have scored. Twenty six minutes in and the same Sholing player only cleared to the edge of his area where Cowes’ Ollie Wilson smashed a volley over the crossbar. Having had the better of the first half hour, the Island side suddenly found themselves a goal behind in the 35th minute when Aidan Bryan failed to clear the ball, which fell nicely for Sholing skipper BARRY MASON sweetly smash a volley from 25 yards that flew past Ed Hatt into the goal. The remainder of the first half drifted past without any further incident,

H-t 0 – 1

A good chance to equalise just two minutes into the second half when an excellent cross from Max Draper saw Dexter Malin head the ball wide of target, then shortly after Sholing keeper , Ryan Gosney made a bit of a hash of his clearance which fell straight to Tom Scovell who, with the keeper well out of his goal, tried his luck from just inside the Sholing half, but his effort drifted wide, some of the crowd calling for Aidan Sainsbury who had scored from a similar position against Melksham in the FA Cup replay. Then in the 52nd minute a corner from the Cowes left saw Ryan Gosney’s poor punch fall to Dexter Malin at the back post, his goal-bound effort was cleared off the line for another corner from which Jordan Browne headed wide. Cowes continued to press forward and in the 56th minute a ball into the Sholing area saw Dan Miller challenge Charlie Smeeton and Referee Steven Currie point to the spot. Sholing complained but the decision stood and CHARLIE SMEETON drove the ball into the corner of the Boatmen’s net from 12 yards to level the scores. Jordan Browne tested Ryan Gosney with a free kick in the 63rd minute, the keeper acrobatically saving in what was the closest either side came to sealing all three points which in the end were shared.
