Attendance – 91

Cowes Sports welcomed Portsmouth based side Moneyfields to Westwood Park for their latest Premier Division encounter. Having already beaten their visitors on their own patch(3 – 2) around a month previous, the home side were confident of completing the ‘double’, but with a few changes in the visitors ranks Richie Woodburn certainly knew it would not be an easy game. Brothers, Aidan and Keelan Sainsbury returned to the midfield and Max Draper came back in at right back with James Butt, Tom Scovell and Ollie Wilson dropping to the bench. Top scorer Steve Hutching was named in the Moneyfields starting XI, one of several changes from the side beaten earlier. Former Cowes keeper Gary Streeter was named on the bench as Matt Shortt was in goal in order to gain some match practice before returning to his parent club Petersfield Town.

September Player of the Month 2015Prior to Kick off Cowes President, ROBIN MERRIFIELD presented the HOLIDAY SHOP and A L S TRAVEL ‘Player of the Month’ award to current skipper AIDAN BRYAN who was in outstanding form throughout the month.

Quite a dull start to the game from both sides. Kieran Stephens miss kicked before Steve Hutching had a shot blocked by the home defence. In the 14th minute John McKie was fouled about 20yards from goal, AIDAN SAINSBURY fired the resulting free kick past the wall and into the right corner of the Moneyfields net ti give the Island side the lead, much to the joy of the home crowd. Moneyfields had a lot of possession throughout the game but, with Ed Sanders and Aidan Bryan in such good form, created very little despite the constant whinging from the visitors, in particular their center forward. John McKie fired straight at Matt Shortt before Conor Bailey watched as his free kick was cleared by Jason Malcolmson close to his goal line.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first as Moneyfields had plenty of possession but could not find a way through and when they did keeper Ed Hatt was a match to anything thrown at him. Kieran Stephens then tested Ed Hatt with a curling shot that was tipped over the bar for a corner. Cowes attacked immediately with John McKie having a shot blocked before he curled the rebound inches over the crossbar. A long throw from the Cowes left saw Steve Hutching head the ball across the face of goal but wide of Ed Hatts right hand upright whilst at the other end John McKie crossed to substitute Charlie Smeeton who played the ball back inside to Jordan Browne who volleyed just wide of the goal.

An excellent three points for the Yachtsmen that moves them up to eighth in the table and complete a first ever double over Moneyfields who have proved in the past to be a bit of a bogey team for Cowes.
