FAWLEY AFC       1  v  2    COWES SPORTS

Cowes traveled to Fawley for this mid week league game looking to bounce back following their home defeat against Andover Town. A miserable evening, damp, drizzle at times was not made any better for the watching supporters by a drab encounter that only livened up in added on time at the end of the second half.

An 18th minute James Butt corner was punched away by the home keeper, but only as far as Nathan Lewis whose header back towards goal was cleared off the goal-line by a defender. Mid way through the half a Dexter Malin cross from the left nearly picked out Jordan Browne but he could not quite jump high enough to connect with the ball. Cowes should have scored in the 33rd minute when first a header by Jordan Browne came back off the crossbar to him, he then blasted the ball high over the bar. Just before the interval Nathan Lewis headed the ball towards the far post from a James Butt corner, but Max Draper could not find the connection to divert the ball into the goal, so the first period remained goal-less without much excitement.

H-t 0 – 0

The second half was only seven minutes old when the home side were reduced to ten men as their Keeper was shown a red card for bringing down Dexter Malin out side the box, although he was going away from goal and a defender was covering. Despite being a man to the good,as Andover found the previous game, is not always an advantage. To their credit Fawley defended very well and made it hard for the Island side to get anywhere near the stand in keeper. As time went on Cowes became more and more frustrated, but as the game moved into added time, the Referee came across to the benches to let them know there would be seven minutes added on, Cowes broke down the right, substitute Jimmy Wykes played the ball across the area for NATHAN LEWIS to finally break the deadlock and give the Islanders the lead in the 91st minute. Just two minutes later, 93rd minute, fellow substitute Jason Ince played an exquisite ball through the home defence to send Dexter Malin away, he in turn played the ball to JORDAN BROWNE who slotted home number two. Manager Richie Woodburn shouted from the bench to his center halves ” clean sheet boys clean sheet”, but within a minute the home side pulled a goal back through one of their substitutes CHARLIE WILLETT when he fired home across Ed Hatt into the right corner of the goal. Thankfully for the Yachtsmen there was not enough time for the home side to level the scores although they did pile on the pressure for the last couple of minutes.
