IOWDFA Saturday Football League

Division 3 – Saturday January 23rd 2016

After the disappointment of having to forfeit the points to Seaclose last week because players were needed to support the Reserves, the young Yachtsmen bounced back to move up into second place in the league after a fantastic team performance away at Shanklin. The pitch was very small and the playing surface sticky, but the youngsters still managed to move the ball around really well. Despite all their good work, they did not take the lead until the 29th minute when JORDAN CHAPMAN skipped a couple of challenges before smashing his shot into the roof of the net. Cowes probably deserved to go into the break further ahead but to be fair, Shanklin defended and worked really hard and their keeper pulled off a couple of great saves.

Kicking slightly uphill in the second half and a change of formation saw Cowes begin to totally dominate the game. They were creating more chances and pulling their players from one side of the pitch to the other as they switched play to create openings for their forwards. On 60mins, after a great passage of play where possession was kept, NICK VYSE was put through to calmly slot the ball past their keeper and make it 2-0. It was 3-0 on 75mins when JORDAN WHITTLE found himself free on the edge of the box to curl his shot in past their keeper. As with the first half, Shanklin made Cowes work hard and battled right to the end in what was a very good competitive and impressive win for Cowes.

Team: Wilfred Armfield, Alex Boirand(Lewis Insley-64mins), Tom O’Brien, Craig Insley, Dan Flux, Fin Ray(Ryan Flynn-54mins), Jordon Stacey, Jordon Chapman, Nicky Vyse, Jordon Whittle, Joe Craig.
