Division 3 – Saturday March 5th 2016

On the furthest pitch from the changing rooms in cold, wet & windy conditions, the young Yachtsman kept up the pressure on league leaders Wootton with a Jekyl & Hyde performance against Ryde Saints.

Kicking uphill and against the wind Cowes started like a house on fire and from their first attack, NICKY VYSE opened the scoring. Within 20mins we were 4-0 up after a quick fire hat-trick from JOE CRAIG. Cowes were playing some fantastic pass and move football and their finishing was deadly. Cowes seemed to drop off for a spell after this quick start and allowed Ryde Saints too much time on the ball to get at the defence. However it was 5-0 on 35mins. The ball ended up with RYAN FLYNN on the wing and after skipping past three hefty attempts to tackle him, smashed his shot into the net. NICKY VYSE then scored his second just before the break to round off a really good first half display.

H-t 0 – 6

Cowes did not start the second half off too bad either. DAN FLUX found himself free at the back of the six yard area to fire home from a corner to make it 7-0. The rest of the half was forgettable as Cowes gave the ball away far too much, missed chances and didn’t seem to want to track back with their runners and help out the defence. The hard working Jordon Chapman was the only midfield player who was putting in a shift which is unlike the lads. WILL SHARP did make it 8-0 with a well taken finish on 75mins, but when we play one of the sides challenging at the top of the league, we will get punished if we do not put the effort in for 90mins. Connor Mumford made his debut for Cowes and looks a quick, strong player and once fit will be an asset to the squad.
