Attendance:- 56

Richie Woodburn’s Yachtsmen made the trip Longmeadow, home of Whitchurch United for this mid-week League fixture.

The home side nearly took the lead in the 7th minute when, despite looking offside, Leronne Plummer shot past Ed Hatt but wide of the goal. A blow for Cowes as Dexter Malin was forced off with an injury after just twelve minutes, he was replaced by Jimmy Wykes. John McKie went close for the Island side shortly after. Nathan Lewis, having travelled down from London to play, played a ball through the heart of the home defence for JOHN MCKIE to hold off two defenders before firing home from the edge of the area to give the Island side the lead on the half hour mark. Cowes’ Ollie Wilson was booked for dissent, according to the Referee’s Assessor, for asking a question ” What was that for?” when the Referee gave a free kick against him. Later in the half the home Manager was heard to swear directly at the Referee, but no action was taken. Inconsistency from the Officials once again.

H-t 1 – 0

Whitchurch pushed hard early in the second half and were rewarded with a controversial equaliser in the 67th minute when Leronne Plummer headed a cross onto the Cowes crossbar, the ball went straight up before coming down to RYAN LAMBERT to head into an empty net, though he looked to be well offside, but the Assistant must have been watching a different game. Cowes responded well and in the 72nd minute should have had a stonewall penalty, which even the home bench agreed with, when Jared Wetherick was upended in the box, but Referee Ashley Allen waved Cowes’ appeals away, another wrong decision!!! Five minutes later and the Yachtsmen deservedly regained the lead when a James Butt corner was only half punched away by Brad Snelling, falling to JARED WETHERICK to volley home from the edge of the area. Four minutes from time Jimmy Wykes was fouled on the left edge of the Whitchurch box, but again the Referee thought otherwise, the home side sent a long ball though the middle and LERONNE PLUMMER outpaced both Aidan Bryan and Jason Malcolmson to blast the ball past Ed Hatt and gain the home side a point they should not have got and did not deserve.
