Cowes Sports welcomed Steve Claridge’s table topping and Champions elect to Westwood Park for this League encounter. Richie Woodburn was without both central defenders Craig Insley and Aidan Bryan as both were away on Gareth Bricknells stag do. Ed Sanders and Nathan Lewis stood in whilst Jason Malcolmson and Charlie Smeeton were back in the starting line up. Still with several games to be played the visitors rotated their side.

Prior to kick off both teams gathered around the center circle and the large crowd were asked to stand to observe one minutes silence in memory of one of the founder members of the Wessex League – ALF PECKHAM who sadly passed away the previous weekend, the silence was impeccably observed by all.

The game got under way in sunny conditions and the depleted Cowes side done well to keep the league leaders at bay, but you did get the feeling that once the visitors found the net they could run up an cricket score. The Wiltshire side had to wait until mid-way through the first half to take the lead when former Southampton trainee JAMIE WHITE turned Ed Sanders on the edge of Cowes’ area before planting his shot in the bottom left corner of Ed Hatt’s goal. Without threatening to level the score Cowes did respond quite well to going behind and held out until just before the break when Salisbury stuck the knife in Cowes’ back with two quick fire goals. On 43 minutes a cross from the left was laid back by Jamie White for THOMAS WHELAN to fire home from 18 yards to double their lead, then a minute later THOMAS WHELAN was allowed to run at the Cowes defence to poke the ball past Ed Hatt for number three. So what was looking like a goal deficit became three in the blink of an eye and killed the game as a contest.

H-t 0 – 3

Any thoughts of the home side getting back into the match were extinguished five minute after the break when TAUREN ROBERTS turned right back Keelan Sainsbury inside out before slamming home a fourth goal for the Whites. That was added too in the 56th minute as Tauren Roberts shot was poked into the net by JAMIE WHITE for his second and Salisbury’s fifth goal of the game. Several more chances were created but Ed Hatt produced some very good saves to keep the score down. Aidan Sainsbury saw his shot fly inches over the Whites goal, but a sixth goal for the visitors was added in the 71st minute when substitute Jimmy Wykes failed to see the ball out of play, Tauren Roberts pinched it before teeing up SAMUEL WILSON to add his name to the list of goal scorers.

Despite the result all at Cowes were impressed by the large contingent of visiting fans and given the various comments on social media Salisburys’ fans were well impressed with everything and everyone that had done so much hard work to make this fixture an enjoyable affair for all.
