Match report: COWES SPORTS 0 v 3 FAREHAM TOWN, 16/08/2016
Buoyed by 3 successive wins, Fareham Town travelled across the Solent last night to face Cowes Sports and came away victors once more thanks to a fine 3-0 victory, courtesy of goals from Lee McCrombie, Callum Laycock and a first goal for the club for Stuart Maunder. Whilst it’s early days, the win took the visitors up to 5th.
It was Maunder who had the first chance on goal for Town, finding himself in plenty of space in the area at a corner but shot over. With several players returning, Town looked as solid and organised as they had recently and it was no surprise that on 22 minutes we took the lead. After being fouled himself, Lee McCrombie took the free kick and curled it around the wall and past Ed Hatt into the net. It quickly became 2-0. After winning possession, Phillips fed Kimber, whose through ball to Laycock saw him clear of the offside trap and coolly slot home.
From the re-start Adam Fisher had to be alert to head away a dangerous cross, and on 30 minutes Cowes had their best chance of the night – Town were caught out by a quickly taken throw and Jared Wetherick blazed high over the bar from close range. Douglas was then called into action, saving well from Aidan Bryans’ header.
The beginning of the 2nd half was scrappy. Cowes changed formation and played a more direct style of play and whilst they had several half chances, Douglas and the defence were rarely deeply troubled by them. Maunder having Town’s first effort of the half but shot over the bar.
The game exploded on 65 minutes when Ollie Wilson was shown a straight red card more for kicking out than the actual challenge on Kimber itself, which wasn’t the prettiest.
On 74 minutes Town wrapped up the points, Kimber beating the offside trap, playing it back to Maunder who 3rd time lucky made no mistake.
