Cowes were determined to book their place in their second round of the Hampshire Cup, but also to do it in style. From the first whistle it was the Island side that were pushing forward, forcing a few free kicks but not troubling the home keeper. Eventually the pressure paid off when in the 28th minute Michael McEnery’s cross from the right looked as though it went under the home keeper leaving JAMES WYKES with a tap in from 3 yards to give Cowes the lead they deserved. Not long after and there was further joy for the Islanders when a long clearance from Ashley Brett found Michael McEnery down the right, he picked out JEZ CONWAY some 18 yards out and his shot beat the home keeper to double Cowes’ advantage.  So the Yachtsmen went into the interval two ahead having dominated the first half, keeper Ed Hatt had nothing to do.

Early in the second half Connor Furmidge replaced Ji Nash and was soon in the thick of the action when he added a third goal for Cowes with a shot from 15 or so yards that beat the home keeper with ease. Young Samuel Kirby replaced Ashley Brett as Cowes continued too boss the game. Aarun Ince came on for James Wykes for the final twenty minutes. The home side at this point began to find a way back into the game as Cowes took their foot off the pedal for the final 15 minutes. The game finished with not further incident and the Yachtsmen booked their place in the second round and a home tie against another Wessex One side, Petersfield Town, likely to be played on the Tuesday 17th September Kick Off TBC.
