In their final scheduled match before “Christmas”, Cowes Sports played hosts to New Forest side Bashley who sat comfortably in mid Table prior to kick off. Also returning was Callum Chase who had missed the Shaftesbury game. Connor Furmidge and Aarun Ince came into the squad to join Jimmy Mumford, Finley Phillips and Alex Wright, who would be late arriving due to work.

Despite only drawing at Shaftesbury the previous week, the Yachtsmen came into this game confident of getting a positive result against Bashley who had a terrific 3 – 0 win at Lymington Town last weekend. A slow start to the game from both sides saw the ball in midfield for the first ten minutes or so. Then, on 12 minutes Bashley were awarded a soft free kick five or six yards outside the left edge of the Cowes area, Connor Whiteley sent the the ball over the Cowes crossbar much to the delight of the home crowd of 183. Bashley’s Harry McGrath then ran down the right at the Cowes defence but sent the ball across the face of the Cowes goal. The floodlights were needed to be put on as the weather closed in on Westwood Park but play continued and in the 24th minute a ball in from the Bashley left was clipped past Joe Winchcombe into the roof of the goal by HARRY McGRATH to give the visitors the lead. On the half hour Callum Chase was yellow carded for a foul near the left corner of the pitch. James Wykes saw his effort saved by Harry Gravett in the visitors goalbefore a Lewis Wright free kick caused confusiion in the Bashley area eventually being cleared off the line by a  combination of a defender and keeper. Having been awarded a free kick and Bashley skipper Brad Morris being shown a yellow card, the heavens above opened wide and before the kick could be taken the ball was picked up by the Referee and the players were told to leave the pitch. The rain continued and even hailstones fell and many puddles appeared leaving Referee Krasimir Petrov no alternative than to abandon the game in the 39th minute. So the game will have to be re-arranged at a later date.
